Dr. Jerry Peele

Dr. Jerry W. Peele has served as Senior Pastor of Eastman First Baptist Church since June, 1993. He is a native of Tifton, and married to Karen Sears Peele, a native of Douglas. Jerry and Karen met at Prince Avenue Baptist Church in Athens, Georgia, and were married on October 7, 1978. They have three daughters: Annalyn, Kristen, and Kellie.

Jerry was converted in November, 1972, as a freshman in college. After several years of intense discipleship and spiritual growth, he began to sense the call of God on his life to preach the gospel. He began preaching in 1977 while living in Valdosta, where he was licensed to preach by Morningside Baptist Church . From Valdosta, he moved to Forth Worth, Texas, to attend seminary and to prepare for gospel ministry as a pastor.

Jerry is a graduate of Tift County High School (1972), the University of Georgia (BS, 1977), Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (M.Div,. 1981) and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary (D.Min., 1992). He enjoys spending time with his girls, reading, and sports, especially football. Pastor Peele loves preaching and teaching the Word of God. He is committed to world missions, church planting, and serious discipleship through the local church.


Joe Daniel

Joe attended First Baptist Church of Eastman as a young child, and through the ministry of First Baptist was later converted to Christ and called into ministry.  Between the years 1985-1996, Joe served churches in Georgia and Louisiana.  He is a graduate of Brewton-Parker College in Mt. Vernon, Georgia and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.  Joe has been serving on staff at First Baptist Eastman since 1997.

On October 16, 2004, Joe was married to Stacey Sanders of Macon, Georgia.  Joe and Stacey have three children: Sophie, born January 30, 2007, Isaac, born January 26, 2009, and Seth, born March 16, 2012.

Clay Layfield

Associate Pastor of Music and Senior Adults

Clay was born April 30, 1972 in Macon, and spent his childhood in Warner Robins, GA and graduated from Warner Robins High School in 1990. From there he enrolled at Brewton-Parker College in Mt. Vernon, GA where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Music Education with an emphasis in percussion in 1995. After two years as assistant band director in Hazlehurst, GA and one year as the head director in Eastman, GA, Clay then left to enroll at Southern Seminary in Louisville,Kentucky where he graduated in December 2002 with a Master of Divinity with an emphasis in worship.
Clay came to faith in Christ during Vacation Bible School when he was 10 years old while attending Shirley Hills Baptist Church in Warner Robins, GA. During his junior year of High School, Clay felt the call to full-time Christian ministry and specifically to the area of music. Starting in 1991, Clay has served several churches: Houston Lake Baptist in Perry, GA (youth minister); Hagan Baptist in Hagan, GA (music minister); Trinity Baptist in Vidalia, GA (music minister); Dover Baptist in Shelbyville, KY (music minister); First Baptist Sellersburg in Sellersburg, IN (interim music minister); First Southern Baptist in Clarksville, IN (music minister) and First Baptist Church Chatsworth (Associate Pastor and Minister of Music). He began serving FBC Eastman in November 2005.

In 1995, Clay married the former Amy Fields from Blackshear, GA and she has been very active in church ministry as well. She has taught various Sunday School classes, directed 2 Vacation Bible Schools and has served as AWANA commander.

The Layfield family has been blessed with 3 wonderful children:

Peter Witkowski

         Peter  Witkowski arrived in Eastman in August, 2012. He was raised in Little Rock Arkansas with a healthy Texas and Michigan influence.  After having his heart radically transformed at the age of 14, he felt the lord calling him to full time ministry while serving on a short term mission trip at Broken Arrow Bible Ranch in New Mexico. Beginning in 2000, Peter has followed God’s call upon his life by serving as a Assistant Nursery Director, Residential Treatment Counselor, Tutor, Chaplain, and Pastor. He holds Bachelor of Art Degrees in History and French from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, and a Master of Divinity Degree from Southern Seminary.

         Peter’s married his best friend in October 2012. His wife April holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business from Liberty University and Master of Biblical Counseling Degree from Southern Seminary. Saved at the age of seven, she greatly enjoys ministering through counseling, teaching Sunday school, and creating graphics. They have one son together who rests happily in the arms of their Lord and Savior.
